Spring fling: tulips

For those of you having a spring wedding, it's really important to keep in mind what flowers are in season for this time of year; otherwise, you'll end up paying a lot more for flowers that aren't in season. One of the most common spring flowers are tulips. They're a great way to add colour and a feminine look to your wedding! Here's some inspiration for you. All of these photos make everything so fresh! I'm ready for winter to be done now:

Tulip pew bouquets from The Knot. Love the bucket!

 Centrepiece from The Knot

Tulip cake and centrepieces with grass from The Wedding Chicks

Beautiful bouquet found on The Knot

I absolutely love this centrepiece idea featured on The Wedding Chicks blog. Love the idea of using heart candies to fill the vase! The colours match the tulips perfectly.

Managing your guest list

One of the most daunting tasks of the whole wedding planning process is deciding on and organizing your guest list. For me personally, I booked my venue first before I even thought about my guest list. That way I knew I had a maximum capacity that I could absolutely NOT succeed and I stuck to it! It's really easy to caught up in adding a few extra people here and there, but if you have a maximum you can't exceed, it makes things a bit easier.

Once you have your guest list worked out, the next step is to collect, input and organize all those names and addresses! The Knot has a FABULOUS tool on their website that was my saving grace. You can use their wedding guest manager tool to:
  • input all your guests' info. You can even enter info about if they belong to the groom's family, bride's family, mutual friends, etc. so that it makes it easier to filter
  • sort guests by event type so that you can easily export the data into Excel to pass along to your bridesmaids for your bridal shower and stagette invite llist. T
  • create an "A list" and a "B list" so that when you start receiving declined responses back from your A list guests, you can start sending invites to your B list.

In addition, you can:
  • manage your RSVPs with a column that says "yes or no" next to your guest's names
  • track meal choices
  • track gifts so you know who gave what;
  • track whether you have sent a thank you card after the wedding.

Finally, you can export your list to Excel, which makes it easy to do a mail merge if you're planning to print the addresses on the invitation envelopes.

Tip: I also suggest putting a tiny number on the back of each RSVP card and adding a column in your Excel sheet next to each guest that says "RSVP number" to track your RSVP cards. Sometimes, people forget to fill in their names on the RSVP card, so when it's returned to you, you don't know which guest is actually RSVPing! It will save you a lot of grief in the end, and your guests won't even notice it's on the back of the card.

An Irish blessing for St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I came across this beautiful Irish blessing that would be perfect for a wedding invitation or thank you message on the reception tables. Enjoy! Have a pint of green beer to celebrate today ;)

May you always have
Walls for the winds
A roof for the rain
Tea beside the fire
Laughter to cheer you
Those you love near you
And all your heart might desire.

Pale plum, light blue and rose red invitation suite

As I mentioned on my blog post yesterday, I was inspired by this unique colour combination of pale plum, light blue and rose red. The colour combination reminded me of a sophisticated, cheery garden party, so I chose to use a damask pattern stamp and added some rhinestones to "jazz up" the invitation suite. This is one of the favourite samples I've made so far, and I hope you enjoy it, too! To view my other samples, visit the Glass Slipper Designs website.

Unique wedding colour combination: pale plum, light blue and rose red

Here's a pretty colour combination to share with you and one that's not so common: pale plum, light blue, rose red (a pinkish red colour). We were inspired to create an invitation that was inspired by this unique colour combo. Stay tuned to the blog tomorrow to view the invitation suite! Hint: it's classy yet fun, with a touch of bling.

DIY tropical fruit centrepiece

Despite the freezing cold weather here in Calgary, here's a cute DIY destination centrepiece idea using pineapple (or any tropical fruit, for that matter) and flowers via the Wedding Chicks blog. Here are the pictures below on how to make them:

Our favourite invitation suite yet

We had so much fun working on this invitation set! And judging by the reaction of all the brides and grooms at the Wedding Show on February 27, this was by far the biggest hit.

The colour combination has an elegant vintage feel to it, the bird punch image adds some fun to the suite, and the ribbon adds a unique and unexpected texture to the suite. Our favourite part is the little envelope on the save the date - your guest simply pull on the ribbon attachment to move the date outside of the envelope. Hope you have as much fun looking at this suite as we had making it!

At Glass Slipper Designs, we can create something unique to fit your budget. This sample here features two layers of cardstock and rubber stamp images along the side. This clean, simple and bright invitation would be perfect for a summer wedding. I especially love this colour combination, which seems to be a big trend for weddings this year.
