Royal wedding photos!

I have to admit, I didn't stay up to watch the wedding, but it's ready for me to watch on PVR when I get home today! However, I have scoured the internet this morning. Here's some photos of the biggest wedding of the decade:

Kate Middleton wearing hair in a chignon?

Will Kate Middleton be wearing her hair in a chignon? The soon-to-be-princess was seen leaving her family home sporting a perfectly put together chignon hairstyle yesterday, according to people.com. I guess only time will tell what she'll do for her 'do...

DIY Bird Seed Favours

Another cute DIY guest favour idea to share with you. Super cute and super easy! Makes approximately 21 two-inch hearts

Ingredients
3/4 cup flour

1/2 cup water

1 envelope unflavored gelatin (2.5 teaspoons)

3 tbsp corn syrup

4 cups birdseed

Step 1: Spray the inside of a heart cookie cutter with vegetable cooking spray. (You could also wipe it down with veg. oil.)

Step 2: Place cookie cutter on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Spoon mixture inside of cookie cutter, pressing mixture firmly with greased fingers. (The more you press it down, the less shedding of seeds you will have.)

Step 3: Using a chopstick or bamboo skewer, make a hole near the top of the heart.

Step 4: Remove chopstick.

Step 5: Carefully pull cookie cutter away from birdseed heart. Repeat until all the mixture is used up. (You should spray the cookie cutter after every six hearts, that way it won’t stick.)

Step 6: Let dry 6-8 hours or overnight for best results. Cut 10-12 inches of jute for each heart. String jute through heart and add a tag. I created my thank you tags by using a rubber stamp, card stock and a rounded corner punch. Tie the jute in a knot after you have added the tag. (You can tuck the knot inside the hole so it doesn’t show.) You can hang these from branches at your wedding, or place inside bags or boxes.

DIY S'More Buffet

A super simple yet fun and different variation for the dessert bar: DIY S'Mores buffet!

{Source: amillionlittledetails.ca}

1) Have guests roast marshmallows over an open flame (if you are having an outdoor reception, this should be pretty easy to do)

2) Dip marshmallows in hot fudge

3) Roll marshmallows in Graham cracker crumbs (or crushed Smarties, or crushed peanuts...I could go on and on with topping ideas!)

Wedding stationery timeline - when to send out save the dates, wedding invitations and thank you cards

One of the most common questions we get asked is when to send save the dates, invitations and thank you cards. Here are the timelines we advise brides to follow:

Save the dates

* 6 months if the wedding is local but there are a lot of out-of-town guests attending or you want to alert local guests to save the date.

* 12 months if you are having a destination wedding where guests will need to book vacation time and budget money for the trip.

Wedding invitations

* 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding date. Regardless of if you are sending save the dates or not, we do not recommend that invitations be sent out earlier than eight weeks prior to the wedding date. People tend to forget to respond if the response date isn’t “urgent” and we find that brides have to do more phone calls in the end.

If you want to alert your guests earlier than the two months prior to the wedding, we suggest you send out save the dates.

Thank you cards

* No later than three months after the wedding. Traditionally, the bride and groom had up to a year to thank their guests for gifts, but this is no longer the norm. Wedding etiquette experts acknowledge that the proper timeline to thank your guests for their generous gift is now no later than three months after the gift is received. In fact, thank you notes should be written immediately upon receiving the gift. Of course, the weeks leading up to the wedding are extremely hectic, so when possible, send out the thank you cards as soon as you are able to.

Your wedding invitations and registry information

There are a ton of etiquette rules surrounding a wedding. And while it may be hard to know each and every one, and even though times have changed, there are rules that still apply.

In particular, I get a lot of questions about including registry information with the invitation suite. While I understand that registries give you insert cards to include with your invitations, this does NOT mean it is OK to include the information when sending out your wedding invitations.

Why? By including the information on the invitation or as an insert, you are basically telling your guests that you expect a gift. And contrary to popular belief, your guests AREN'T required to buy you a wedding gift. So where is it appropriate to include registry information?

1)  Bridal shower invitations - it is considered appropriate to have your wedding party include a small line at the bottom of the invitation that indicates where the bride is registered or to include registry inserts in the bridal shower invitation envelope.

2) Wedding websites - with all the free wedding websites available out there, couples can easily create a website that provides more information about the wedding, activities to do in between the ceremony and reception, and of course, registry information. It is perfectly acceptable to include a line at the bottom of the invitation that says, "For more information, visit our wedding website at..."

3) Word of mouth - this is still one of the best ways to get the information out about the wedding. Make sure your parents, wedding party and close family know where you are registered; that way, if other friends and family ask them, they can tell your guests where you are registered.

Cash donationsIt is never, ever, EVER, EVER (did I get my point across?!) okay to indicate anywhere that you prefer a cash donation. If you aren't planning to build a registry, then simply do not include the information on your wedding website. By not including the information on your website or invitation, your guests will most likely recognize that it is implied that you do not have a registry. If your guests ask you, your family or your wedding party, you can simply state that you have chosen not to register anywhere, without blatantly stating that you want a cash donation.

Another option if you are looking for cash instead of gifts is to create a honeymoon registry. There are several registries available for couples to sign up for. You and your fiance can put an itemized list together of what you'd like to do on your honeymoon and your guests can contribute to those activities (ex. dinner for two on the beach, sunset horseback ride, swimming with the dolphins, etc.)

Unique wedding combination: purple, turquoise and green

I made a suite using this uique colour combination a while ago, but I recently came across a blog post on onestylishbride.com with pictures from a real wedding that used this combination. Here are some photos below:
